Joe,my cousin, made it down yesterday for our family reunion tomorrow. He called me about 6 pm and was already out at his place so I loaded the dogs and Corey and took off.We had a couple of real short runs but the heat and humidity made it tough on the dogs. Finally they hit one and we had a good run and made a couple of big circles before running it in a brush pile.It was dark by then and the dogs were give out due to the heat so we called it quits.
He had to take his mother to see one of her sisters this morning so he couldn't go.I came very near not going myself but woke up at 6 and lay there a few minutes before getting up.I decided to go and run just the three females and see what would happen.Turned them out about 10 minutes before seven and at five minutes after seven Tequila got one started.Annie and Sudie had gone on the opposite side of the road and it took them a few minutes to get to Tequila but finally did and the race was on.Made a short circle and the rabbit came back across in front of me out about twenty yards and a few seconds later another one came across out about 50 yards.Annie and Tequila came across after the closest one and Sudie was after the other one.She had trouble getting hers across the road and decided to sell out and went to the other two.Had good running back and forth,up and down with only two checks and they were short ones. They finally lined out going straight away from me and I drove on up the road a quarter of a mile and they were pouring it on mr bunny.Suddenly Annie went into her bay mode and I knew it had holed or something.Looked at my watch and they had been running that rascal 58 minutes.I drove on around to a set of cattle pens and stopped then had to walk in a good ways to get to them.Someone had dumped three old water heaters and Annie was digging under one of them. The burner had been removed and that end was open.I looked in and the rabbit was down at the other end between the housing and the tank.I got a rock and knocked the other end partially off and bent it down.Annie could just barely stick her head in and couldn't quiet reach the rabbit.I took a stick and punched it down to where she could reach it and she pulled it out.She circled around a few times and then brought it to me and layed it down and that rascal took off like a scalded cat.Went under an old pick-up bed but didn't have enough room and Annie caught it again and brought it back to me.I took it from her and let them all smell of it good and headed back to the truck. Finally they went to scouting out front a little ways and I let the rabbit go and the last I saw of it it was burning rubber back the other way.I watered them up and hurried on home so I could call Joe and rub it in on him missing out on a good one.LOL.Wish you folks could have been here with me,it was the best run I've had in a long time and it's always better for me if someone else is there to enjoy these little hounds with me.
