Wondering how feed conditions are in other parts of the U.P. Normally, end of July and the first couple of weeks in August find bears feeding heavily in raspberries. Raspberries are sparse in the area I operate in. Chokecherries are fairly abundant and I imagine they'll ripen enough to be on the bears main menu in a couple weeks. Some area oaks have acorns, but it's not going to be a bumper crop. I believe acorns are about the highest protein nature provides the bears. Saw a bear today that was about as thin as I've ever seen one. Not a good sign. Hope the bears are fairing better in other areas.
