Brokbranch...Long story about the Idaho Plott named Jed. A friend from Florida offered me half interest in Jed. Part of the deal was Jed would stay here with me full time, but he could hunt him when he was here. He was 4 or 5 yrs. old at the time. Far as I know the guy who raised him was Cal Meyer. Jed was always real mouthy when I tried to rig him. Eventually took a chance and broke him of all the popping-off by using a shock collar. Fortunately, it worked and he became my main rig dog for several years. Lots of special memories provided my by Ole Jed. As I recall Steve Mohr was originally from Illinois...wonder if his Ursus dog go back to Weems?

Mohr and Weems lived about three hundred miles apart in illinois, but yes Mohr did use the Weems stuff some, I can't remember if Rowdy was out of Weems breeding but I remember he bred his Weem bitches to Rowdy, one cross I remember was Ursus Rowdy Plott to Ursus Weems Plott Jody, this cross produce some nice bear dogs.

Your hunch was right Rich, Rowdy was out of Weems Plott Dan, his dame was a Nichols Stormy bitch, Stormy threw some top hounds.

Hi Brokbranch, I would have liked to had the opportunity to try a pup from steve Mohr...he's obviously been a dedicated bear hunter his whole life and likely has the real thing.

You should get one, I don't think you can find a better strain of Bear dogs anywhere, he still advertises in Full Cry Magazine or at least he did a year or so ago, his phone is 604-823-4681 he now lives in Abbotsford, British Columbia. He has spent his whole life developing a strain hounds that are meant to hunt bear. I don't think they are cheap, but if you were to buy a pup you would have a real good chance of it being the best you ever owned.

Brokbranch, I still like the Plott dogs and will likely always have one or two, but I am currently a little more focused on the Walker dogs.
