How many of you hunt bear with Plott's? Also what do you all think of them? I hunt wild hog and have always hunted with curs doga and such. We just recently aquired a Plott and a Plott x cur. They were used on hogs and are silent on track. I guess I was also wondering how many of them are silent on track compared to the one that are not? Last but no least has anyone ever used them for wild hogs? Sorry about all the questions., just curious is all. Tico

Tico, I have hunted lots of Plotts on bear. Got my first Plott in about 1972. Have owned some good ones and have had to cull some, too. I have never owned a Plott that was silent on trail. One of the best known Plott breeders I know of that hunts hogs is Orville Roberts in Louisiana. In my opinion...if you want a Plott for hog or bear your chances are better if you get one that is bred specifically for that game. I try like hell to avoid coon bred dogs of any breed for bear hunting. Had lots of trouble over the years with dogs that lacked the grit to make a bear dog...yet they'd jump all over a coon.

Well the one we got right now has been on plenty of Hogs and was even used around the country as a bay pen dog in bay comps. But he hasn't seen a hog in well over 3 months. We took him out and he trashed on dillars...I wanted to shoot em'...lol I mean if he would 've trashed by killing the darn thing thats one thing but having me and my brother run through some of that thick stuff and waist high mud . He was baying a darn armadillo..lol I cant have that right there. I mean I know out of frustration of not getting on anything and not being out in the woods for awhile can make a dog rusty and trash but dont bay it , especially a dillar. Needless to say we're working on getting us some shock collars and see if that will help. I like the long range.. I can see myself getting used to it. I hope they turn around and find us a few good ones. Hey thanks for the info on the gentleman you mentioned. I'll keep that in mind if I ever look for another Plott. Tico
