Hello Whitedog, Don't have any great bear hunting stories to write about. My 7 year old rig dog started giving me some problems and it's had a big impact on my hunting. I almost never turn a dog loose on a bait, having always depended on rig dogs. So, I have not had as many bear races this season. Getting things turned around now. Earlier, had a couple bear bayed that my dogs could not get treed. Right now, I'm down to 3 dogs. Shut down again today due to rain. Last bear race was last Thursday. My 9 year old Plott/Walker and an 18 month old Walker/Cur had the bear stopped for awhile, but it broke loose before I could get to them. Saw the bear cross the road a short time later. The 2 dogs were close behind...and this was after they'd been on him 3 hours. Damn bear went over 12 miles. Even then the old dog never quit...had to go catch him. Van Creek and I partner'd up and did some bear hunting. VC is a good hunting partner, and has some dogs that would make anyone proud. He's had a much better season than me. No doubt he'll post in the near future.

whitedog, treed two on sunday.a 200 plus boar and bayed up a small yearling.the boar was a truned loose trailed 10 minutes jumped and treed all in 15 minutes time.let him down and never treed again.the yearling ran a fair piece and ended up caught in a blown down bunch of spruce,i pulled my dog away by the tail and called it good.had another nice(though it was nice, till this mornin)bay up but ended up loosin a nice two year old female in the process, the other dogs injuried are fine, but i lost the one i cared alot for, better to die huntin than hit by a car though,i dug her resting place next to the driveway and found some big rocks to place around it,think i will dig up a small maple so she will have some shade as well.she stayed with it even though her lung was punctured and collapsed,i was so proud of her on friday, took her to the vet, they didnt operate but dressed her up and i kept her in the house till yesterday when i took her back in,they had her overnite and i got the call that they lost her this morning.hope you get a chance to get out whitedog.rwh,i cant wait till friday,as i am determined to get one up in terras memory, lookin forward to the weekends hunt, hope you have some good huntin this week.jerry
