Whitedog,
Funny you mention ole Zeus. Bruce was on a (god like) power trip wasn't he? I mean really, taking the name of Zeus--the king of the Gods gives a guy a little insight into his mind and where he was at in life.
As for the wolves, the ranchers did the right thing wiping them out years ago as they are little more than a killing machine that sport hunts and kills for pleasure. Turning wolves loose in the lower 48 states is about like giving a year round license to a poacher after you catch him. ...then filling his tank and writing him a blank check on the government.
I wrote a page long article for a paper in western Colorado years ago when this wolf thing came up. The research data is clear that wolves will hunt and kill game species until they are nearly gone. Heck sakes, just pick up the phone and talk to some of the biologists in Alaska. They'll tell you caribou can retain their numbers if there aren't any Griz in the area. But if both predators are working a population the numbers soon shrink to unhuntable numbers. They have had to aerial shoot wolves off caribou herds for years to retain the herd size.
I figure the US Fish and Wildlife Biologists that prepared that introduction booklet for the Yellowstone and Selway of Idaho area were either grossly mistaken or liars. They wrote they would return the management to the states after they had 15 mating pairs, or 150 wolves in each area. So what do we have now.....over a thousand! They also claimed the wolves would only utilize 6 to 8 percent of the big game species population, and that number would be split up between deer, elk and bison. However, an article in the Montana paper claimed the north Yellowstone herd has declined so badly they are going to have to close down the cow elk hunt in Montana. I think they claimed they use to shoot 1600 cows per year and were down to 161 tags last year after introducig the wolves.
I figure they Put Martha Stewart in jail for lying to federal investigators then why shouldn't some of those biologists have to go to jail for lying to the public?

Of course we don't have Wolves down here in Texas and I hope we never get the SOBs down this far. We have Coyotes so bad here it is hard to coon hunt. They sometimes jump on our hounds at the tree.

Ike I remember back when the wolves was planted in yellow stone and idaho, wasnt long after we started hearing the horror stories from the ranchers out that way, bout the time the horror stories started, the us goverment and the state of michigan dnr, planted wolves from out west here, coarse they say they didnt plant them they just transrelocated them, same damn thing if you ask me, any how you speek of the numbers the wolves had to reach befor the states could take controll messures into their own hands, well the great lakes packs have been well over the fedral numbers for close to 10 years now that they are pose to turn controll over to the states, the farmers and sprotsmen have takein matters into there own hands in this area, I have been hearing reports comeing in from bear hunters that are looseing dogs on a daily basis, its just a crying shame that they told us lies and then we still have to live with them, but the feds do what they want, realy dont matter what they tell us, after all it was the feds that put the bounty on them, and I realy believe that the feds havent leaglely lifted the bounty on them, so realy I think they should have to pay us for all the wolves we kill, but heck, I am a proud american, I will not charge my country for what I love to do lol
bigtimber I sure hope you never have to deal with wolves, they are nastyl, they will wipe out a pack of hounds just for the fun of it and if them hounds are tired out from running all day they are dead for sure, coonhounds here are getting jumped at the tree by wolves and are half ate by time you can get to the tree, in this area, its just a crying shame we have to deal with this problem, I know lots of people look at pictures of them and think they are so pretty, but its a diffrent storie when they come in your front yard and kill your pet on the end of his chain and eat him right there, all the stories you hear of there has never been a wolf attack on humans is just a myth, its happen sence the beginning of time, there was just 6 people attacked by a healthy wolf in canada, its hard for the wolf lovers to cover up modernday attacks, when people who hate wolves are liveing to tell the storie, I hate to come off as a but head but wolves are no good, by the way bigtimeber I live in the middle of the great lakes wolf region and we have plenty of them to warrent a hunting season, have a great day...
