Today was the last day of our bear pursuit season, so I thought just one more bear huh? I loaded all six males and put them down just after daylight. I could hear them treed by 7:30 AM, so I started working my way into them. It was a rough, long canyon with lots of blowdown. I heard the bear come down once and climb again in a short distance. The next tree was closed than the first, and I was there before all the dogs made it to the bear. My five year old choco dog had gotten bitten on the left hind leg and was a little slow making it to the second tree. Upon closer examination, that hound had a right front canine broken off at the gum line. If you look really close you can see a lump on his nose which is that tooth laid back. What a way to end bear season. However, I'll have to give that ole hound a thumbs up for treeing so hard with a broken canine and bitten through the back leg........hope he is OK! Ike

your hound looks to be in good shape ike, that tooth should be ok get him on some antibotics and maybe have the vet look in his mouth, i had a dog get his k-9 teeth messed up by a bear and the vet pulled them and wired his mouth back up and he came out of it just fine, them k-9's are just for fighting/killing prey and pulling meat off its prey, in these days a dog realy dont need them, he should be fine, but id see a vet if i was you, keep us posted on his recovery, keep them looking up bud...

Thanks whitedog. I did take him to the vet tonight, where they removed his tooth, swabbed out the bear bite and put him on antibiotics. The vet wanted to keep Choco over night so he could check him out in the morning......I was glad to leave him! Keep'em treed! ike the culprit that did the damage!
