The bear that broke Lightening's jaw . . . Ken went hunting while I drove 2 hours to Sacramento for a Cheer Competition. I got the dreaded phone call just as I was pulling into Sacramento. The bear weighed in at 450 lbs. When they shot it out of the tree, they could hear the branches popping under it for a good half a mile. The had it bayed on the ground about three different times in about an hour period. He finally went up a tree and went WAY up. When Ken got to the tree Lightening was up on the wood banging away at that bear. She left the tree and came to Ken. He saw just how bad her jaw was broken. The front of her lower jaw was just attached by skin and was hanging. She was bleeding everywhere. Misty, one of Gene's dogs had her back leg skinned from her hip to her knee area and the skin was hanging there. When Justin shot the bear, he hit him in the head. It looked like a good shot and the bear fell taking all the branches on his way. One of the guys went down to make sure that the bear was dead. He confirmed and we kicked the dogs loose. The dogs started chewing and the bear tried to get up!! At that time he went rolling down the hill with dogs attached!! Dave ran down after them and shot him in the head at VERY close range! Lightening with her mouth closed!! Lightening treeing while tied back during the kill. Ken and the bear Justin and the bear

Great pictures! That bear did a job on lightning. I guess that is a risk you have to take if you are a bear hunter. Glad she is ok now.
