This season went pretty good. Only hunted on the weekends due to most of the guys working. Ran an average of 12 dogs per trip. They treed a bear or two every weekend. There were no middle sized bear. They were either huge or under 250. They left most of the smaller ones. Treed around 22 bears, took 10. We were lucky till the end of the season with only minor injuries to the dogs. 4 weeks before the season ended, right before thanksgiving, they came across Dwaine's bear. The dogs bayed this bear for 7 hours in a brush field. They started running him at 6 am and he was killed on the ground around 4 pm. He never treed. There were several dogs with puncture wounds, but only one back leg needed stitches. It was first thought to be 600 lbs. After later consideration, they dediced it was around 450 - 500. The game warden said it was the largest recorded in our area this year. Here are some pics of Dwaine's bear: DWAINE, JUSTIN AND A FRIEND OUR FRIEND ERIC IS AROUND 6'2" WITH EXTREMELY LARGE HANDS. The next weekend was BIG BEAR WEEKEND. Unfortunately, they got the big one the week before!! They only got about a 250 pounder that weekend. They missed the following weekend because of Sarah's show. The next weekend out they ran across another mean one. He was about 450 and 500. The dogs ran about 2 hours in a steep brushy canyon with no trees. The guys heard the dogs on him and could see him running back and forth up and down the two sides of the canyon with a trail of about 14 dogs behind him. When it was all said and done, a 350 yard shot with a 300 Weatherby did the job. The bullet went into his right shoulder and took his front legs out from under him. Two shots to the head with a 44 Mag pistol (Ruger Super Black Hawk) finished him off. In all, he injured 7 dogs. One had to be put down in the field as his hind leg was torn almost completely off and he would have bled to death before they could make the 3 hour trip to the vet. 6 others were injured and returned to the vet. Duke, our new male sustained 4 broken ribs (probably stomped) which punctured his lung. He was put down by the vet the following morning. Our new female Annie had a broken jaw and was repaired. One suffered a broken leg that was bitten in two. It was pinned and the dog will hunt again next year. Three others received puncture wounds that required stitching, one requiring a drain. THE KID IN THE MIDDLE IS THE ONE WHO LOST HIS BLUE TICK TO THIS GUY So our season here is over for this year. TIME TO COON HUNT!!!

IN MEMORY OF DUKE We got him as a pup - Dannie rescued him from Lake Shasta We found him a home with our Paster. He decided he wanted to bark all day cuz he was bored and wanted to hunt. He killed one of the neighbor's goats. Paster called and asked if we could take him back. Of course, we did. He was about 10 months old. That was at the beginning of the season this year. Ken said he was one of the most aggressive out there when there was a bear on the ground. He was gonna be one of the best! The day the bear got him was only his 3rd weekend out running with the big dogs. Ken had been walking him down to the tree. He said he was too good to keep out of the race. Duke and Sissy tied back
