i think what the problem is,is that anyone can trap regardless of age and that people are getting their buddies, wives, kids, and neighbors to purchase the tags, and with a nice cat bringin 100 to 150 bucks, and purt near kittens bring 35 to 50 bucks, how could you go wrong,i live just below da bridge and have know alot of people trap cats here and take them across to get taged, now they can trap here, and i know of a couple people trying to get tags together at the last minute, and i have heard those same folks took 12 cats this year trappin,as long as they keep their tag they bought the dnr cant make them pull thier iron,i truely believe the only way to stop the decline of the cat population is to make the tags a lottery similiar to the bear,if you only get a tag once every few years you might not get people to apply and pay the couple bucks if they cant get a return on their investment, the cats will increase, hunters will not want females or kittens, and hold out for toms with some size, and the trappers will get a fair shake same as houndsman and callers, although i would still like to run them every year but could go without harvest to see the population increase.on a different note,i heard a cat schreech the other nite about 2am,and that sure fired the place right up,im sure my neighbors love my dogs ;D ;D ;D have a great day, also whitedog i didnt make it to that meeting but will get that address to you,and the up bearhoundsman are sponsoring a youth nite hunt in millington i think sometime in july for anyone with a kid who would want to be in a nite hunt, take care and have a good day

Vancreek...appreciate your comments. Well thought out. Maybe the lottery on cats is the way to go.

rwh as you mite know the state has cut back on any over time, heck these guys are working 40 hours and getting payed 35 to 38 hours pends on there years of service, a couple years ago i assisted a local CO in takeing down a pig trapper, i seen this person with 3 cats in the round and bout 6 skined and asked him if he bought furs and he went into detale how he would buy fur harvesters for his family and friends and went on to brag about over 24 cats in one season, well as you can guess i have know use for this pig and went to the dnr and the CO asked me to help and i was ready, that season i helped the CO was able to ticked him for 16 bobcats over his limit and sevral tickets to the names on the fur harvesters whom tagged his cats, i agree with VC a lotto on cat tags would be great and i also believe that make the tags a 100 bucks across the board to apply for bear, cats and elk this would cut out the pigs and any one who can afford to hunt them can afford a 100 bucks to apply, just my 2 cents, yall have a great day.

Whitedog...my hat's off to you. Good job on cutting into the illegal trapping activities. I believe these type of abuses are widespread. Guess the only hope we have is for the fur price to drop...ain't likely the DNR will adress the problem. Interesting how the DNR has plenty of money to manage their pet wolf project...at the expense of everything else. I know some individuals in the DNR are sincere and don't mean to paint them all with the same brush.
