Huntin 54...I was not suggesting people gut shoot wolves...just reporting on the sentiment of folks in the region. When this wolf thing started over here in the western Upper Peninsula most folks were somewhat supportive of having a few wolves. Later, it became obvious wolf managers have no plan to maintain a balance (population of 250 wolves). As is often the case with environmentalists meddling in game management, the animal they are trying to promote ends up suffering the most. The wolf will end up suffering the most.

Huntin 54...I'm glad you stated it like you did. It gave me a chance to explain myself better! Just got this month's Full Cry magazine. There's a well written article on wolves in there. You might find it of interest.

Kinda interesting that there is a device that will alarm the authorities when an animal is doing nothing for a period of time, my hunting buddy has a hound that would be setting that thing off all the time. I really thought the U.P. guys would keep those dang wolves under control, now I see they let em get so heavy poulated that they have spilled over into the northern lower. I think the next project for the DNR would be to re-estalish a health rattle snake population

BB they sure didnt over populate on my acount, i have been doing all i can to keep them in check but they seem to be reproduceing very fast, its allmost like they the dnr have been trans relocateing more minnasota wolves here like they have been doing sence 1974 and i hear the the dnr traded elk for wolves with canada, funny thing about the elk trade is a bunch of them have swam the sainte mary's river and are liveing in the eastern upper peninsula now, i think its funny the elk came home but the fricking wolves wont go back, i guess i cant blame them lol
do you think wildlife would offer this timeing devise on hunting dog collars if we wanted them, i thinks its just a scare tactic to try to keep hunters from killing the wolf, i think that a good hot fire with a car tire in the middle will kill any signal that any type of tracking collar would send out, just my thoughts.

I also think it is a scare tactic about the collar. And say we took the collar off after the wolf is dead and we walk and around or drive a few miles and through it in the river or a lake. Then what does the DNR go for a swim.

I know that the wolves are here in lower S.E Minnesota I ran one last year while coyote hunting. We just consider them a big coyote if you no what I mean. I free casted my hounds out and it took them about 20 min to pick up a track. Once they opened and headed across the field I knew right away what they were chasing. So the rest of the hounds were turned out to help until we got around to the next section, it was some experience let me tell you.

sure hope you guys got some lead in the useless thing, was thinking of useing a pedator call to get them, calling wolves and mt,lion is sure fun and its easy, any one can do it with a e-caller, i dont think i could bring my self to kill a red fox or a yote if it came to a e-call, i dont see the sport in it, fox and yotes are for the hounds and i guess lion aswell with e-callers, now a lion with a mouth call sounds like it could be a touch fun, but couldnt be all that fun, hell calling a peditor is like ringing a dinner bell, but congrats on the wolf kill, sure hope you guys got it any how, have a great day.

bearcat welcome to the site, where are you from ? well i am very sorry to hear of the loss of a nutter good dog to the useless wolves, feel free to vent your anger towards the wolves here, i started this site cause i was banned from so many hunting dogs site for stateing my opion of wolves, here you wont get that i am a avid hound hunter and live in the center of so many wolves it isnt even funny and many hounds here are getting killed by them, i hate wolves, I have no use for them and cant see a use for them, other than maybe kill off all are big game and hounds.
anyhow i hope to see more of you dont be a stranger and have a great day.

Refering back to the website on wolves posted here several days ago...I'm wondering if the wolves we're encountering in Michigan are hybreds. I've seen maybe a dozen wolves in the past couple years and they've all be 70 lbs. or so. As the wolf site notes, Canadian wolves are bigger with some weighting over 120 lbs. Anyone seen the larger type in Michigan? If we do have the hybreds here...then they would not be protected under the endangered species act. Sorry...Been away for awhile tearing my old house down and replacing it w/ a new one, but last I heard the case of a farmer near Escanaba was thrown out because the wolf he shot that was after his cow's was a 95% hybrid...It wasn't a true wolf but a pup that some bitch was knocked up by one so it was legal to shoot and kill, it was a DOG like any other hybrid. Shoot to your hearts content! Ha! ;D
