A thread on the Shadetree hound site mentioned since March the Wisconsin DNR has been investigating poison bait being placed in a couple areas in northern Wisconsin. Some of the Wisconsin houndsmen think it is directed at poisoning hounds. Although it is possible wolves are the target.

rwh a while back you gave me a name of an wisconsin outfitter to check about bears in roll cages if you remember, any how i got ahold of the outfitter and we talked on the phone for some time and this subject came up this outfitter and his friends believe its farmers putting this poison out to kill wolves, do to the bear training season being closed, he told me that its killing yotes and bears and he claims maybe only a few wolves, i do know that the farmers in my area are getting very sick of wolves and they dont care who they mite hurt to kill them, i have been finding anti freeze out in the bush along the roads and i think its farmers doing this in attempt to poison wolves, i have been telling the farmers i know not to do this and i offer other ways to get them that wont hurt other animals like bears and hounds, i will be training a few farmers this fall how to set 330 conibars and snares to get wolves, some of these sheep farmers are loseing lots of lambs to wolves and there fed up and cant take it any more, thou i cant blame them they need to be trained to take care of it the right way, us as houndsmen have to offer help to these farmers give them pointers and a few lessons, the farmers i have talked to in my area know me and will take the time to listen and take pointers from me, i know there killing a few but they want them all gone, so all i am doing is offering help in the way my hounds wont be as likely to get killed, its not so much the state as it is the fedral goverment that is keeping us from killing any great numbers of wolves, the goverment dont have to deal with wolves like we do and they just dont care long as its not them loseing money from them, guess it goes to show just how much the goverment cares for us, i think every state should have a equal number of wolves, then maybe something would be done to get the bounty back on them, i have talked to a farmer that is useing decoy dogs and he claims its working, i guess he is useing a shock collar on the decoy dog and if the wolves are in hearing distance they come running he says when he shocks the dog and it yips and kayies they come and he is there waiting, just some food for thought, have a great day.
