Some parts of AL. have lost the right to hunt deer with dogs now.I have hunted deer with beagles but on a real big block of woods.A beagle don't really push a deer hard enough to make the deer cross out.But that is just my opinion.

well my opinion is that you could feed 2-3 beagles the same amount of feed that you need for a walker. Thats just my opinion

Huntin54 You are right you can feed 2 or 3 beagles about the same amount as one running walker takes.I wasn't saying a beagle wasn't a good deer dog.I was saying a running walker will push a deer harder and faster and that is a fact not a opinion.Beagles make great deer dogs there is no doubt about it.I have hunted deer with beagles many times in the past. But there are times where the big dog is needed. When you are running a big block of timber like 1500 acres and you jump a doe.A old doe will run big circles in a block like that just staying infront of a beagle. And never coming to a crossing for a shot.Where a running walker will push her so hard and fast she will break that circle pattern and head for water or out of the block {to a crossing} But if you took my post as I was saying a beagle isn't a good deer dog you took it worng.Because they are! Some hunters like a deer to be pushed slow and some like them to be pushed fast.I just happen to be one that likes a hard fast race.

huntin54, dd444 isnt into running hounds to save a $buck$ if a man was going to run dogs and try to save a buck, one or two beagles would be a wise choice, 54 as you grow older you will be a great hunter and develop your own hunting styles and most likely use a dog breed to fit your own needs and what it cost to keep him/them will not effect your pocket book, cause you will hunt as you want to hunt, if the cost of dog food effected my choice of hunting id have to quite, it is very exspensive to run dogs and its just something you have to love to do, i myself chose to run hounds and i love to run hounds, yes it takes some money to do it, but some people i know chose to sit in a bar every day and that cost a lot of money and lots of them are free loading bums that dont even make hardly nuf money to pay rent, I have been feeding 6 dogs for the last 3 years, that rounds out to bout 15 bucks a week, a mix drink in a bar is atleast 3 bucks, the bums i know sit in the bar drink 2 drinks a hour lets say and there in the bar 8 hours a day thats 48 bucks a day and thats 336 bucks a week, thats over 17 grand a year, unless a man is paying top dollar for dogs all the time its hard to spend that kinda money running hounds, so what i am trying to tell you 54 is spend your money on hunting and hunting dogs as it seems to be a great intrest of yours, stay out of the drugs and drinking its not good, just say NO to drugs and drinking, have a great day and keep them question comeing 54.

Im not trying to say i wouldn't have dogs like that i was just asking why he was putting beagles down now i know what he means. Thanks for the answer whitedog. When i get older i hope to keep having beagles because i enjoy hearing them pounding that rabbit then see the rabbit race by and the dogs not to far behind. I will try to keep that up and teach my kids to hunt when i get older.

DD444 you already know with me from the other site but I used to run walkers and black&tan dogs but now I dont have any dogs but intend on getting some deer runningbeagles before long, just aint many good places you can run bighounds around anymore due to so many paved roads and not enough help to catchem, beagles are just easier to keep up with and run a steadyrace I think, so you fellas takemeasy and have a good huntingseason..........-tim

Doghunter101 Your right about that if your going to have big hounds. You have to have the land and the people to hunt it.I'm hunting with a group now that has the land and people. So I guess I'll stick with my big dogs for now.But I have thought of a beagle walker cross. If I knew I could get a medium size dog that could run with its head up like a walker and drift a track.I would try a cross like that..
