Good luck with your deer hunting Whitedog. Took a cruise through the national forest yesterday...there's a bunch of tent camps set-up along the forest service road...mostly downstate hunters. Believe they'll be disappointed in the lack of deer in the area. To me a deer isn't much more than a hyper-active goat and just something I shoot for meat. Couldn't care less about antler size. Might tick-off some folks by saying this, but I believe the skill required to hunt deer is a lost art since the DNR allowed deer baiting to become the primary hunting method. Lots of young hunters growing up wondering why the old man carried a compass.

rwh i realy get a kick out of some of these young guys when it comes to talking compass, i just think its funny, they say i know the compass points north, then they say i dont know how to get it to point the way i want to go lol
on a nutter note first light payed off, i bagged a big one didnt walk 20 yards past where the last hound is tied out and a deer was bedded down, i hollered at a young dog to shut up and up came the deer, soon after jumping up the deer rolled over, its a nice big piece of meat, not to many horns for the antler soup, but i never liked antler soup any how, well i am headed out for the evening sit in the big woods, good luck all.

Good job Whitedog! Hunted a couple hours this morning then went back out at mid day for a short time. Saw one of the over-size coyotes we talk about. Cover was too thick to "see" him well. Will head back out after feeding the dogs. Winter storm warning is in effect here, with 8 to 12 inches of snow forecasted.

? any luck tonight rwh, i seen a few but they where a little to far out for the high winds, we have 30 mph winds here, snow and freezen rain, so i passed the shot up, maybe the wind will die out by morning and they will show up at day break.
any one else seeing any deer, or better yet any one get one, lets hear the tail that goes with it, have a great day.

Didn't see any deer the entire day. Sounds like a big storm headed for us...local radio says up to 15 inches of snow. Reckon that'll seperate the men from the boys!

well the second day is here, dont look good, we have high winds, gusting to 50+mph here, dont think i could get a shot off that wouldnt blow off the line of sight lol its just plain nasty, the deer move good in the rain or snow but these high a winds, i dont think they move to well in, my tree stand is nailed to a ole swamp popal and i could hold steady on target any how lol i have a few blinds on the ground but the deer arent there yet, there in the winter yards for bow and muzzle, guess ill just get in my mobile blind, it has a great heater in it lol good luck and have a great day.

Same situation here whitedog. Here close to the big lake we got rain mixed with snow. Inland I'm told they got 6 to 8 inches of snow. Maybe hunting will be good towards evening if the wind calms a little.
